Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, National President of the NDC
The National Democratic Congress said it had gathered information that the government was planning to embarrbad its national president, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, with a brutal arrest.
According to the party, the security agencies have already obtained a warrant for arrest against Mr Ofosu Ampofo.
"The National Democratic Congress has learned that the government, using security agencies, had obtained a stop warrant over the last few days for the arrest of our national president, the Hon. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo. We further learned that the security agencies had the intention to do so, apparently in conjunction with elements of the NPP security forces, and that they intended to stop the president so as to lower him in the esteem of Ghanaians.
"The NDC takes very seriously the intention of the government, if our information is correct, and wishes to draw the country's attention to the fact that, as chairman of the largest opposition party in the Ghana, our national president has the right to be treated with the utmost respect and dignity, "said the party in a statement.
The statement added: "While respecting the position already expressed by the Council of Wise Men regarding police invitations, we wish to make it clear that the National President is a law-abiding citizen who will never flout a duly obtained order from the police." a court then.
