The national communications director of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the government of being complicit in the ongoing disorder in Menzgold.
According to Samuel Gyamfi, one should blame the Akufo-Addo-led administration for giving an image of legitimacy to the beleaguered businessman, Nana Appiah Mensah, and to his distribution company. Or, Menzgold.
He said Zylofon Cash's sponsorship of the Ghana Premier League is one of the ways in which the NPP government has introduced Menzgold's CEO, better known as NAM1, as a credible companion.
Addressing reporters at a press conference on Wednesday, he said that since NAM1 had been authorized to sponsor the country's best football league, it was presumed that it was was a credible businessman.
"The state watched while NAM1 was sponsoring the Ghana Football League without any objection …", he said.
According to him, the government can not absolve itself of any responsibility by claiming that the Ghana Football Federation (GFA) is a private organization under the governing body of FIFA, the world football governing body.

"… with regard to Ghanaian football, it's not a private matter," Gyamfi said.
He wondered why the government did not oppose what he was sponsoring the league while the Central Bank had made it clear that she was investigating Nana Appiah Mensah for operating without a license .
NAM1 was declared wanted in the country and a government delegation went to the UAE where he was arrested for another agreement that went wrong.
State authorities are hoping to bring Menzgold's leader back to Ghana so that he will answer accusations of defrauding under false pretenses and money laundering.
In the midst of all this blame game, Menzgold's customers say that all they want is for NAM1 to come back to the country and reimburse its investments.
