The health center closes after the outbreak of legionaries in a Jacuzzi that leaves nine guests in the hospital

A seaside spa was closed, following a potentially fatal legionella outbreak that left nine people in the hospital.

Health officials said the infection was diagnosed in 14 people after their stay in the Healax salt caves in Bournemouth, Dorset.

Of these, the symptoms of nine guests were so severe that they were transported to the hospital.

A woman became "violently ill" 24 hours after using the spa spa and a man reported a "wet and urine" smell from the jacuzzi.

Public Health England (PHE), Bournemouth City Council and Public Health Dorset have decided to close the spa.

Dr. Fiona Neely, Epidemic Control Team Leader and Health Protection Consultant at Public Health England, said, "We are aware that visitors to Healax Salt Caves and Spa will be concerned about the fact that rebadure those concerned that all public health measures have been taken immediately.

"Fortunately, in all cases of illness reported to PHE so far, affected people are now recovering from their illness."

Guests who visited the spa between June 1 and June 18, when health experts believe the risk of infection is present, have been contacted by PHE.

Paul Wetton, 42, visited the spa on June 16 with his wife Angela.

Although he was given the go-ahead for legionellosis, the project manager was diagnosed with Pontiac fever, a milder illness resembling the flu caused by Legionella bacteria.

"The conditions in the spa were terrible and rather than improving our health, we both had an infection in the chest and I got very sick," said Paul de Bournemouth.

"" I should have known that something was wrong when I saw that it was next to a license and a flea. When you came in, there was this strong smell, it smelled of urine and moisture. I had never been to a salt spa, so I thought it must have been what they felt because it was a seawater jacuzzi.

"We only stayed for half an hour in the jacuzzi, then we left because it was not nice."

He added: "The next night, I had a fever and my breathing went bad.

"I ended up having two or three days of work and my wife had similar but not so serious symptoms."

A statement on the Healax Salt Caves Facebook page apologized for any inconvenience caused by their closure.
