Lionel Messi scored a superb hat-trick as Barcelona opened a 10-point gap at the top of the La Liga with a 4-1 win over Real Betis.
Argentina was the star of the show, opening the scoring with a sensational freekick to 20 yards before adding a second on the half-time shot, returning home after a clever help at the back wheel of Luis Suarez.
Suarez missed a good number of opportunities, but added a magnificent third just after the hour of play, pushing forward with the ball 40 meters, pbading the tackles of the three defenders and slipping a low effort on Pau Lopez.
Real Betis scored a goal when substitute Loren Moron scored an 18-yard home goal, but the highlight of the night came when Messi completed his hat-trick with a scintillating first win over Pau the net on the bottom of the bar.
Betis fans cheered in front of the goal as local fans sang and lined up in Messi's honor. The only negative point for league leaders is a nasty-looking injury suffered by Suarez just before the full-time whistle.
