"People have a lot to see. So we organize that. The slave castles along the coast and the historical monuments, we are working on it as we speak, but I am very confident by June, July and August, when we expect the influx of people to arrive we will be well placed to welcome them. "
The Government of Ghana has organized many activities to celebrate the 400 years of the transatlantic slave trade.
Nicknamed "The Year of Return", the celebration will begin with the Festival of Culture and Wellbeing in Africa, February 7, 2017.
This festival was created by Dr. Sharita Yazid, naturopath, head of operations of New Body Products Ghana and repatriated to Africa.
A group of natural healers, African dance / drumming instructors and fitness experts were consulted to badist in the creation of this festival and the creation of a sound platform for them. years to come.
The festival was launched on February 7, 2019 at Jamaican Jam Rock in Accra, East Legon.
There are other activities spread throughout the year. Some include Black History Month with the African-American Association of Ghana, the Back2Africa Festival, Ghana's Independence Day celebration, the Pan-African Student Summit, the festival JaGha Reggae and the Heritage Paragliding Festival in Kwahu.
Other events include the Waxprint Film Documentary Festival, the celebration of the return of the Black Prophet, PANAFEST, the spiritual pilgrimage of GOD BOX, Chale Wote, Afrochella, among others.
The Ghana Tourism Administration and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture coordinate the annual calendar of activities as part of the "Celebrating the Resilience of the African Spirit".
This is done in partnership with the Diaspora Affairs Office in the President's Office, the Pan-African Historical Theater Festival Foundation (Panafest) and the Adinkra Group.
