The inhabitants of Tolon ask for drinking water

Nyankpala (N / R), July 6, GNA – Some
residents of Tolon District in the Northern Region complained about the lack of
of access to drinking water in the area saying that it affects their lives.

They said the situation was worse during the
dry season because there were few boreholes, wells and dams in the area.

This was the major concern raised in a city
meeting in Nyankpala organized by the Justice and Peace Commission of
St. Monica Parish in collaboration with the Catholic Archdiocese of Tamale and the
Conference of Catholic Bishops of Ghana with the support of Conrad Adenauer Stiftung.

The meeting brought together residents and
the Tolon District Assembly officials to interact and share the development
the issues that concern them and how they might be treated.

It was held under the theme: "Community
Participation in local governance for rapid and sustainable development ".

The inhabitants called on the Assembly to
help provide water sources in the region to ensure access to drinking water sources.
water.

Other residents also talked about the lack of
furniture in most schools in the region, lack of sanitary facilities and low
drainage systems and called on the Assembly to contribute to their resolution.

Mr. Abdallah Yussif, Tolon District Assembly
Planning Officer, who spoke on behalf of the District Director General at
the meeting, said that the Assembly was doing its best to address some of the issues
raised.

Mr. Yussif said as part of Annul 2019
Plan of Action, the Assembly undertook development projects to improve the
agriculture, education, health, water and sanitation in the region.

He mentioned the creation of a district
Center for Agriculture, Trade and Technology, Procurement and
distribution of 4,000 double desks to schools, rehabilitation and
the construction of some CHPS compounds as some of the projects undertaken to
improve the situation.

Yussif appealed to development partners
and donor agencies to help the Assembly contribute to the realization of its development plan
because he could not generate enough income to meet his needs.

Mr. John Baptist Kambe, President of Justice
and Peace Commission, St Monica Parish, urged the public to actively participate
decentralization process to promote good governance.
