ROME (Reuters) – Italian coach Roberto Mancini has described as intolerable the racist abuse suffered by Juventus striker Moise Kean in a Serie A match against Cagliari, and stated that it was time to end such incidents.
Kean, who had been mocked throughout the match, was in front of the Cagliari fans and opened his arms after scoring Juve's second goal in a 2-0 win on Tuesday.
In response, supporters of Cagliari made the noise described in Italy as "buu" and considered a racist insult.
"The behavior towards Kean was intolerable, but it happens often," said Mancini at an event in Rome. "The racist" buu "must be stigmatized, he can not continue. We must act and we must be hard.
"The problems are those related to racism and that's where you have to start doing something."
Mancini disagreed with suggestions that 19-year-old Kean, who had participated in the two Euro 2020 qualifier matches in Italy where he played last month, won with his provocative celebration.
"Kean is a golden boy," said Mancini. "Maybe next time, he will not do it. I think he was in distress. "
Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci said that Kean was partly responsible for the incident, although he later came back and said he was too hasty.
"It seems that Bonucci's words were misunderstood and he then explained it himself," said Mancini.
