The June 4 sermon by the prophet Jeremiah Rawlings

Ghanaians have become accustomed to booms and exhortations on birthdays on December 4 and 31. At first, they were truthful. Nowadays, however, the prophet Jeremiah Rawlings looks more and more like Obinim. His recent sermon was strange.

The former president has formulated two key points that need to be addressed.

First, he called for the removal of the indemnification clauses of the 4th Republican Constitution. He said: "Over the years, the indemnification clauses have encouraged certain people to abuse their functions and take advantage of them.The constitution of the 4th republic was created by us, for us and to serve us and in the light of the past 25 years unconditional need to reform or rewrite our constitution. "

The former president's appeal reopened the debate over whether Mr. Rawlings was the involuntary tool of a mavvavian cabal who had hidden behind him to run the country or of a malignant operator who (under-pretended George W) been badly underestimated by his enemies and friends and draws a final con with this call. In light of section 37 of the transitional provisions, which states that "Notwithstanding any provision of Chapter 25 of this Constitution, Parliament shall have no power to amend this section or sections 34 to 34 of this annex ", how can it proceed in this way? Did he ignore the cowardly protections inserted in the middle of the night to protect those who, under his direction, had stabbed Ghana in the back?

The Ghanaians did not need 25 years to realize the unfairness of the compensation clauses – we knew that they were wrong from the first day.

And since it was to protect people from revolutionary crimes, how could it encourage people to abuse their offices under the Fourth Republic?

The indemnification clauses are not worth the effort to remove them at the moment. Indeed, in recent years, it is no longer an excuse for us to look at each other while new crimes have been committed by people protected by the indemnification clauses. The authors of "Kume Preko" and other similar crimes were not covered by any compensation clause – we simply did not have the collective courage to hold them accountable.

The authors of the corruption scandal Mabry and Johnson and the "privatizations of Donkomi" were not covered by any compensation clause – we simply refused to submit them to probity and responsibility. Compensation clauses have nothing to do with our insistence not to look elsewhere at the face of crime and evil.

The former president then turned to the new ruling clbad's habit of blaming the people for the failures of our leaders. Echoing the president and others in the aftermath of the floods, he said: "Our current sense of self-discipline is at an all-time low, indiscriminates leading to deadly floods, we throw garbage indiscriminately and we wonder why the drains choke. " According to experts, the main causes of flooding are urbanization, construction of waterways, lack of drainage works, poor maintenance of drains, lack of drainage storage infrastructure, lack of regulation or the lack of application and the amount of rain. Thus, the favorite excuse of policy makers – blind waste is not the main factor. Indeed, to the extent that blind waste plays a role, it is favored by the lack of collection and transport of garbage by the authorities. It is hard to imagine people who, with their own collection points in their neighborhood, would rather just throw their garbage in the streets. The mantra "change of attitude" is, for the most part, bull.

Every day, thousands of Ghanaians leave Ghana for Europe and North America. When they succeed, despite their lack of attitude, these Ghanaians integrate into society. They do not engage in scandals and commit any of the crimes they commit at home. Could this be due to the application of the law? Solutions to most flood causes rely on God and the government – not the defenseless victims of floods.

Governments at the local and national levels must prevent the construction of waterways, build and maintain good drainage systems, build reservoirs to store excess water, hold decision-makers accountable and enforce our laws. Surprisingly, despite the serious consequences that led to the floods and deaths, no government official resigned or was fired following the floods in recent history.

Let's stop blaming flood victims for the failures of our leaders. Probity and responsibility must concern the leaders and not the innocent mbades.
