The presidential candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, noted that the biggest difficulty facing many institutions, including the church, is the lack of estate planning.
He therefore indicated that, like many companies wishing to survive beyond the first generation, the church must also develop a good succession plan to ensure that the work of God be placed in capable hands when the old guards withdrew.
Last Sunday, Mr. Mahama joined the congregation of the Church of the Central Assemblies of God, Tema Community Four, for the enthronement of Reverend Samuel Cofie as the District District Pastor of the church.
Reverend Cofie was elected on January 12, 2019 to the position of Minister of the District. He succeeds Nissi Kwadjo Diafo and becomes the fifth district minister of Tema.
Reverend Emmanuel Ofori and Joseph Kojo Ahunnya, respectively elected secretary and treasurer of the Tema District Church of the Church of the Assemblies of God, were also appointed.
The Tema Church of the Church of the Assemblies of God was created in 1995. It includes 17 local churches, 30 pastors and 15 pastors in tents. It also operates a credit union for its members.
Succession planning
The former president, who was the special guest of honor, said that succession planning was a vital process in every institution and that the church could not afford to. Ignore this important principle.
"I am confident that the Church of the Assemblies of God in Ghana is well positioned and will continue to train a new generation of leaders at all times," he said.
He congratulated the newly elected officers and urged them to focus on building a church based on the word of God.
He reminded the new leaders of the heavy responsibilities entrusted to them and encouraged them to focus on teaching the word of God.
"We live in an interesting time. Many Christians are troubled by some of the things that are happening around them.People go to church in search of prophecy, but the main duty of the church is what Christ has left us, it is to preach the word of God and walk in his ways, "he said.
Sermon
Pastor Ato Bentil, Treasurer General of the Church of the Assemblies of God of Ghana, preached the sermon on the theme: "The Evolution of Leaders" on the basis of the biblical text 2 Timothy 2: 1-2 Because of the evolution of leadership and must be transferred from one generation to another, the church must always identify, select and train leaders who would also have a positive impact on those they lead.
