Koforidua,
June 08, GNA – Mr. Samuel Kwakye, Regional Director for Eastern Food and Beverage
The Drug Authority (FDA) states that sending a person under the age of 18 is an offense
to buy tobacco and tobacco products.

Again, laws against smoking in public places
would be strictly enforced to help protect society from significant damage
that tobacco causes the body.

This was contained in a speech read on
on behalf of Mr. Kwakye on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day Koforidua
and Ghana's advocacy agenda on noncommunicable diseases here in Kumasi.

The program was organized by Stroke
Association Support Network – Ghana (SASNET-Ghana) in collaboration with the
Ghana Alliance against Noncommunicable Diseases (GhNCDA).

Dr Armel Abu, Regional Coordinator for East
from MNT said two out of ten people who visited the East Hospital
Region suffered from NCDs.

He explained that the main problems that
influence the cause of NCDs were, smoking, consumption of unhealthy diets, physical inactivity and the abuse of alcohol.

Dr. Abu said that the Koforidua Regional Hospital
had initiated a system allowing healthy people to have a blood test
blood pressure, sugar levels and other medical examinations to control the
the impact of NCDs in the region.

He said that the regional hospital managed various
specialized clinics for various NCDs so that people with NCDs can
have access to treatment.

Mr. Ebenezer Ad Adams, National Vice-President
President of GhNCDA called for respect for the rights of suffering people
NTMs.

The national health insurance scheme covered the full treatment of NCDs in order to
relief to people living with the disease.

Mr. Ad-Adams called for meaningful action
participation of people with NCDs in the development of policies and
programs on the treatment of NCDs.
