The legend of Liverpool explains why Philippe Coutinho must be re-signed

Former Liverpool player Steve Nicol urged the Reds to make a sensational transfer to former midfielder Philippe Coutinho.

The Brazilian playmaker left Liverpool for Barcelona last January but failed to make a huge impact in Spain despite his consecutive win at La Liga.

Coutinho continues to be linked to his remoteness from Barcelona and reports even suggest that Liverpool would be interested in his services. The reality is that a return to Liverpool is very unlikely this summer.

That did not stop Nicol from urging the club to re-sign the 27-year-old. He thinks the Reds lack firepower in the midfield and think Coutinho might be the perfect solution.

"Philippe Coutinho was able to play as he did when he left, which is one of the first three but he also played in the three central ones too," Nicol told ESPN FC.

"He has already shown in the Premier League that he can work on these two positions, and what you are constantly trying to do is bring in players who not only improve your team but also each of the eleven of departure. "
