Legendary combat rapper Tech 9 is dead, according to reports.
Although the cause of his death is not yet known, Premier Battles posted on Twitter: "We are very sad to hear Philly and the legend of the tech 9 fight rap is dead.
"His work both in the stands and as co-host on Champion has propelled this strange little scene on which we are all separated every day. Battle rap lost a good one! Thoughts and prayers accompany his family.
Born in Akeem Mickens, Tech 9 has been a staple of the battle rap community for over 10 years. Co-host of Champion, he fought some of the biggest MCs of the sport, including T-Rex, Arsenal and Rich Dolarz, as part of Smack's Ultimate Rap League.
The details of the number of victims reported by Tech 9 have not yet been made public. NME will provide updates when more information is released.
Paying homage on Twitter, Lloyd Banks of G-Unit wrote: "Rest in peace on the Philadelphia legend, Tech 9", while Joe Budden tweeted: "This is not the news I wanted to wake up … . smmfh. "
Lupe Fiasco also wrote: "Rip Tech 9 … one of the most entertaining battle rappers. Condolences to his family and friends. May God have mercy on his soul. "
Battle rap icon Hitman Holla tweeted, "Opened this app to that ?? Wtf ?? Damn, it hurts to tweet … RiP @ Therealtech9 … we lost a good nigga man … what hurt us … man bading! "
John John Da Don wrote: "I did not cry when MJ, Biggie or PAC died … but TECH?"
