It is now crucial that the Limerick-Cork Highway be completed in time for the Ryder Cup at Adare Manor in 2026, said Sen. Kieran O Donnell.
Speaking as a result of confirmation that the Blue Riband Sports Tournament will be featured on the five-star site, Mr. O Donnell said that "all roads" now must lead to Limerick and Adare.
"My intention since the first day has always been to bring the M20 back to the political agenda we have been successful in. We now have to focus on the completion of the M20 before the Ryder Cup in Adare.
"For me, the most important thing is that it is going on," he said, also highlighting the vital need for the Adare bypbad, which was hit with a further delay last week.
Getting the Ryder Cup, he added, is "fantastic news for Limerick".

Mayor Michael Sheahan said this opportunity was huge for Limerick to make itself known over the next seven years.
"I know a lot of hard work and discussion took place in the background to secure the tournament for Adare Manor.
"We must congratulate JP McManus and the entire Manoir Adare team, who have developed a premier resort and golf course that can meet the needs of the best players in the world. The Ryder Cup is a great opportunity to promote Limerick and the entire region to a large global audience. We must seize this opportunity with both hands and maximize its potential for the Limerick urban area, "said the first citizen.
He urged all state and local agencies, businesses and local tourism organizations to start planning now.
Dr. Pat Daly, deputy general manager of the city and Limerick County Council, added, "We are delighted that the Ryder Cup organizing projects in Adare have come to fruition. Just look at the impact that the Irish Open has had in Lahinch and the British Open in Portrush recently to see the benefits that large-scale golf tournaments can have for local economies. The Ryder Cup is even bigger. "
Helen O Donnell, a local businesswoman, added, "It's so exciting for the city and the county. I am very happy for the McManus family, which has invested heavily and will continue to invest in this project. It's amazing to have this for 2026 and all plans can be put in place. It's extraordinarily exciting. "
"You saw what happened with [the Irish Open at] Lahinch. It was spectacular, but it was a whole new level. This will put Limerick on the map. It's fabulous for Limerick, fabulous for Adare and fabulous for Ireland. "
Cathaoirleach, Cathaoirleach Metropolitan District, James Collins, said, "This is great news for Limerick, it gives us a great opportunity to showcase all that is good about Limerick, if you look at what Clare did with the Irish Open, it's a fantastic chance to show what Limerick has done, not only for Limerick, for Adare, but for the whole Mid-West.
"This will put us in the showcase from a tourist and sports point of view. It's a huge event in the fantastic place of Adare Manor. "
Fine Gael TD Tom Neville said: "The Ryder Cup organization will rightly place the beautiful village of Adare in the forefront of the tournament, and will showcase it to an international audience. to thank the Minister of Sport and the government for the support provided to help achieve this great feat for Limerick. "
Maurice Quinlivan, from the town of Sinn Fein in Limerick, said: "The global reach of this competition is staggering, with the tournament being broadcast in more than 370 million homes worldwide, so Limerick and Ireland have a fantastic opportunity to make our island a destination of choice for millions of people, like the Open in Portrush last week, and by organizing an event of this magnitude, hundreds more jobs will be created for the local population and 'huge opportunities for local businesses.'
He pointed out that a Deloitte report revealed that 143 million euros had been generated for the Kildare economy as a result of the 2006 Ryder Cup at the K Club.
"It would be extremely important to stimulate Limerick's local economy on this scale." Limerick has so much to offer visitors and we must make sure to prepare and take advantage of this unique opportunity to showcase the best of Limerick in the world, "he said.
