After nearly 48 hours of hunting the man, the police arrested the suspect allegedly shot dead by Nipsey Hussle in front of the rapper's clothing store, South Los Angeles.
The Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies arrested Eric Holder, 29, on Tuesday afternoon in the city of Bellflower, two days after the shooting and about 20 kilometers from the crime scene. Los Angeles police detectives arrived quickly to check that he was the wanted suspect.
Attention is now shifting from the streets to the courtroom. It is likely that the incumbent will be charged with killing Hussle and appearing before a judge over the next two days.
The authorities announced that Holder was suspicious Monday night, publishing his face and his name, and publicly urging him to surrender. Police said that a citizen had threatened to surrender to Holder.
Hussle and Holder knew each other and the two men had some sort of personal argument a few hours before the rapper's murder, said police chief Michel Moore at a press conference held earlier on Tuesday.
The two men had several exchanges Sunday and Holder returned to the store with a handgun and opened fire on Hussle and two other men, who survived the shooting, police said.
The leader did not reveal how the two men had been made aware of and gave no details of their dispute, but he stressed that it was a matter of personal affair between Hussle and Holder. Hussle acknowledged that he was part of a gang when he was younger and the police stated that Holder was a gang member, but the leader said that rivalry between gangs & # 39; s # They had played no role in the shooting.
After shooting Hussle and the other two men, Holder escaped into a waiting car driven by a woman, Moore said.
Police chief Steve Soboroff, chairman of the city's police commission, was due to meet with Hussle on Monday to discuss police-downtown relations.
At the press conference on Tuesday, an emotional Soboroff read in the email sent by Hussle asking for the meeting.
"Our goal is to work with the department to improve communication and relationships and to change the culture and dialogue between LAPD and your city," Hussle said in an email.
A memorial with art, flowers and tributes to Hussle grew up around the store and he hoped that it would be an anchor to revive the surrounding blocks.
Hundreds of fans and friends came to celebrate it. The scene was tense on Monday night when a man waved a firearm and caused a wrangle that left nearly two dozen wounded, police said.
The 33-year-old Grammy-nominated rapper, whose real name is Ermias Asghedom, recently bought the mall and planned to redevelop it into a mixed-use commercial and residential complex.
This plan fit into Hussle's broader ambitions of redeveloping the neighborhood in which he had grown up and trying to break the cycle of gang life that attracted him in his youth.
Chadwick Boseman, star of "Black Panther", joined Tuesday a group of personalities who have congratulated Hussle for his art and humanity.
