Accra, April 12, GNA – The Medical and Dental
The Ghanaian Council (MDC) of Ghana recruited on Friday 106 newly qualified doctors, who
have been trained locally and abroad.
They included professionals trained by the
University of Ghana and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology
Schools of Medicine and Dentistry as well as those who received their
formation of countries such as Ukraine, Russia, Cuba, China, the United States
from America, Morocco, Belorussia and the Czech Republic.
Dr. Eli Kwasi Atikpui, Clerk of Medical Affairs
and Dental Council, proceeded to a roll call of inductees and formally
presented them to the chairman of the board of directors, confirming that they had sat and
pbaded the Board Registration Exam and meets all other requirements
to enable them to practice in Ghana.
Professor Paul Kwame Nyame, President of
the ninth council of the medical and dental council, administered the Hippocratic
Oath (doctor's oath), while a representative of the Minister of Health, was in charge
to recite the national commitment to reaffirm their commitment to duty and
service to humanity.
They pledged not to allow religion,
nationality, race, political party or social status to interfere in their duty
in the care of their patients but would maintain their profession with
awareness and dignity, and also respect the secrets of their patients even
after their death.
Nyame congratulated the inducted members and
warn them to give up greed, be humble, maintain high skills, learn to
take advice from their elders and look for continuing professional development.
He said the MDC was unhappy with the current
reduced standards of internationally trained doctors and the falling performance of
students in various health training institutions because of the increasing number
admissions that did not match the available facilities and
guardians.
He said that the Council was working with the
competent authorities to review and harmonize the program and to address other
challenges contributing to poor results to ensure quality.
Again, preparations are underway for a
common pre-registration examination in line with the international practice of
dissociate the qualification exams from the universities, the
licensing exams of professional regulatory bodies, he said.
"There have been rumors and allegations about
the fairness of the examinations, with allegations that certain candidates would be
deliberately failed as a form of discrimination or as a means to increase

He said the nature of the medical examinations
were such that no examiner or administrator could influence the
result, and no professional involved in the examination would attempt to
subvert exams to the advantage or disadvantage of any candidate.

Mr. Kwaku Agyeman Manu, Minister of Health,
in a speech read on his behalf, spoke of negative attitudes and conduct
of some health professionals and the recent media report on the claims of
professional negligence and health insurance fraud.
He warned them against getting rich
quickly through these negative practices, saying that the MDC Council was working on
develop a scope of practice and ethics to streamline the conduct of
practitioners in Ghana.
He admitted that although the country should
strive to achieve a good doctor-patient ratio to reach Universal Health
Coverage must be done in a manner that does not compromise quality
and the credibility of the profession.
Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare, Executive Director
Health Services of Ghana (GHS), spoke out against the refusal of doctors to
in under-served areas, claiming that capital cities were in shock, others
Ghanaians still suffer from lack of quality medical care.
He said that it was unacceptable and that the GHS
no longer gave financial clearance or did not post medical information
practitioners, but they advised to go to his portal, fill in the
application forms and submit for hiring interviews and publications at
areas of need across the country.
Dr. Samuel Gepi-Attee, a medical urologist and
Surgeon at the University of Ghana, advised inductees to maintain
the spirit of the students by always seeking knowledge and by showing badysis, and by
leave a legacy for which we will remember them in the future by keeping a good
documentation of events.
