Rabat – Pope Francis arrived in Morocco early in the afternoon on Saturday for a two-day visit to Morocco, his very first trip to the country. This historic trip aims to promote interfaith dialogue and coexistence.

After delivering a speech at the Hbadan Tower, the Pope headed to the Royal Palace of Rabat where he signed with King Mohammed VI the call "Al-Quds", which aims to preserve the holy city of Palestine and to safeguard its common heritage.

Pope Francis then posed for a photo with the royal family.

The picture shows Pope Francis with Mohammed VI, Prince Moulay El Hbadan, Prince Moulay Rachid and Princesses Lalla Khadija, Lalla Meryem, Lalla Asmae, Lalla Hasnaa and Lalla Oum Keltoum with his son Prince Moulay Ahmed, two years old only.

The 5 princesses all wore elegant Moroccan kaftans for the occasion, while King Mohammed VI, Prince Moulay El Hbadan and Prince Moulay Rachid wore traditional jellabas and red hats in fez.

Caftans are one of the pillars of Moroccan culture since the 16th century. The dress, worn by Moroccan women on their wedding day and on other special occasions, is often long sleeved, with buttons and an embroidery in the middle and a waist belt.

Moroccan princesses are almost always present in incredibly complex kaftans at official events, as tradition dictates.
