A Pennsylvania woman who gave birth in the washroom at her job and let the little boy partially submerged in the toilet pleaded guilty to endangering a child in danger.

Emmanuella Osei had refused her pregnancy to her friends, family and colleagues.

She left behind a two-year-old girl in Ghana when she went to live in the United States with her uncle last May.

The 23-year-old woman pleaded before judge Margaret C. Miller at a hearing on Tuesday.

The Lancaster District Attorney's Office stated that on January 16, Osei was working in a group home in Parkside Lane, Warwick Township, when she told colleagues that she felt sick .

After asking her supervisor to pick her up, she went to the bathroom and phoned her manager to ask them to dial 911.

Police say that she never said that she had given birth, but when they entered the restroom, they found what appeared to be an umbilical cord.

Regional police officers from northern Lancaster County noticed that the door was partially open and that she was surrounded by a large amount of blood.

They performed CPR on the newborn who was cold and unresponsive and who would have been submerged for 10 to 15 minutes.

Osei did not try to help save her baby's life.

The baby was hospitalized in critical condition, but has since recovered.

He was placed in a foster home.

"Corporal Ochs's thoughts and quick actions have certainly saved this child's life," said District Attorney Craig Stedman. "It reminds us how much our men and women in uniform do for us."

At the time of his interview with the security forces, Osei admitted having visited the emergency on 4 January.

Osei remained locked in Lancaster County Jail without bail, after being arrested at the Reading Hospital in January.

She did not receive bail because she could flee to Ghana, where police said.

The Reading woman faces up to 10 years in prison for the second degree of her sentence, after being sentenced later this year after a criminal record investigation.
