Majeed Waris paid tribute to his former teammate Emiliano Sala, missing, after scoring for Nantes in the 1-1 draw against Saint-Etienne in Ligue 1 on Wednesday night.

The Ghanaian got a point for Nantes with 20 minutes of play and he celebrated the event by patting a photo of Sala on a top under his shirt.

Sala and pilot David Ibbotson were aboard a light aircraft that disappeared over the Channel Islands on 21 January.

Emotional tributes were given to Sala, 28, before the match.

A video presenting his best moments as a player from Nantes was broadcast before the match at the Stade de la Beaujoire.

Fans were visibly upset and Argentinian flags and "Sala" scarves were waved in the stands.

Players on both sides wore jerseys carrying a picture of Sala and the message "We love Emi" – which translates to "we love you Emi" – during the warm-up and wore green armbands symbolizing hope during the game.

The game was stopped in the ninth minute, as players and supporters cheered for a minute, which caused the collapse of Nantes manager Vahid Halilhodzic.

Sala had made a transfer between Nantes and Cardiff on January 19, two days before the disappearance of his radar flight when he was traveling with his new teammates.
