Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has revealed that the ongoing National Cathedral project will be open to the general public on Wednesday March 6, 2024.
The minister said the date Ghana marks its 67th independence day will be used to officially command the interfaith sacred space for the nation.
While reiterating the government’s commitment to prioritize the project, the Minister of Finance during the presentation of the semi-annual budget review on Thursday said: “Work on the National Cathedral is progressing rapidly.
“When completed, the National Cathedral would provide a sacred space for the state’s formal religious activities and symbolize the enormous contribution of faith to nation-building,” he added.
Mr. Ofori-Atta added that the government is working closely with faith-based organizations (OBF) to train human resources to develop the country.
He said more than 46,000 and 100,000 people have received training in various disciplines including fashion, catering, cosmetology, electronics, soft business and managerial skills.
“We continue to rely on our FBO partners to raise awareness and ensure adherence to protocols for wearing life-saving masks, social distancing and improved hygiene within our communities,” he said.
In 2019, Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta revealed that the construction of the National Cathedral is estimated at more than $ 100 million.
Already, the government has demolished all structures on the proposed site to build the Ridge National Cathedral in Accra, and work is progressing.
She also chose renowned architect Sir David Adjaye to design the building.
The construction of the cathedral is the fulfillment of a commitment that President Akufo-Addo revealed to God before winning the 2016 election.
The 5,000-seat auditorium cathedral project will also bequeath the country a gracious national park for all Ghanaians, bring new skills, technologies and jobs to the country and serve as a beacon for domestic, regional and international tourists.
