The Greater Accra Regional Parliamentary Primaries of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) registered a mbadive entrance, with 118 candidates choosing nomination forms to run in different constituencies.

The candidates, comprising 20 women and 98 men, will seek the approval of voters from all 34 constituencies in the region to represent the party in the 2020 legislative elections.

The submission of the application forms has been scheduled for tomorrow 18 July and Friday 19 July 2019.

Unless the party calendar changes, the parliamentary primaries, which should take place in the country's 275 constituencies, will take place on August 24, 2019.

Breakdown

With the exception of the electoral district of Ablekuma North, where Ms. Winifred Ashley is unopposed, the rest of the constituency should be hotly contested.

The Bortianor / Ngleshie / Amanfro constituency had the highest number of candidates with nine candidates, followed by Amasaman, which had six candidates.

It will be a battle of nerves in the constituencies of Odododiodoo, Sege, Trobu, Krowor, Ayawaso West Wuogon and Ayawaso North, each of the constituencies having only two aspirants having expressed their interest.

The rest of the constituencies registered between three and five aspirants.

Outgoing MPs

Many members, including Ningo-Prampram MP Samuel Nartey George; Ablekuma South MP, Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije; Oodododiodoo MP Nii Lante Vanderpuije and Ashaiman MP Ernest Norgbey are all seeking a green light to represent the NDC in the 2020 legislative elections.

Shai Osudoku's incumbent MP, Ms. Linda Ocloo, is also seeking an endorsement from the electorate, but will face another challenge from a former Executive Director of the Service Program. national, Dr. Michael Kpessah Whyte.

The two men clashed in a by-election to choose a parliamentary candidate in June 2016, following the death of Desmond William Ocloo, Linda Ocloo's husband, shortly after his election.

In Ningo Prampram, the party's riding president, Michael Kwetey Tetteh, has expressed interest in challenging the siege for the second time after failing to beat competition from Sam George, who had won the seat after defeating AND Mensah in the NDC 2015 parliamentary primaries.

Other seats

The parliamentary primaries of Ayawaso West Wuogon will see the actor John Dumelo compete with Ms. Suzzy Afua Adoboe for the seat after Mr. Delali Kwesi Brempong, who had represented the party in three general elections, did not not chosen form.

Mr. Dumelo had already submitted to challenge the NDC primaries for the constituency of Ayawaso West Wuogon when the seat became vacant following the death of the outgoing MP of the new Patriotic Party (NPP), Emmanuel Kyeremanteng Agyarko, in November 2018, but canceled his decision before the main contest.

In the district of Ledzokuku, Benita Okity-Dua, who represented the party in the 2012 legislative elections and won the seat in Parliament, is seeking to run for the third time after failing to retain her seat in the 2016 general election.

The constituency of Krowor will attend the return of Ms. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, who represented the party in the 2016 election but failed to retain her seat after outgoing President, Dr. Nii Okley Quaye- Kumah, made himself known in politics.
