The New England Patriots mark history by defeating the Los Angeles Rams at the Super Bowl

For those who may be drowsy … the Patriots have won the Super Bowl.

New England dominated the Los Angeles 13-3 Rams in a game that resulted in the NFL's high-definition black-and-white TV era. This is the Super Bowl with the lowest points in 53 years of history.

Tom Brady earned his sixth record in the NFL by scoring 262 yards without touching a goal. The Patriots tied the Steelers for the most Super Bowl wins, with six.

Julian Edelman caught 10 pbades for 141 yards; he was the only offensive threat of the day.

Brady designed the only touchdown of the game: a five-yard, 69-yard run punctuated by a 29-yard shoulder throw in Rob Gronkowski's hands. At the next game, Sony Michel scored on a two-yard dive with seven minutes to play for a 10-3 lead.

But the real stars of the game were the New England defenders, who smothered Rams quarterback Jared Goff, limiting him to 229 yards.

After the New England score, Goff moved the Rams to the New England 28 with a remaining time of 4:30. But the third-year quarterback won one near the end zone and cornerback Stephon Gilmore took the lead for the interception.

The Rams, who averaged 32.9 points per game this season, joined the Miami Dolphins – Super Bowl 6 in 1972 – as the only second team to not score a touchdown.
