Plans to build a new arena in Calgary to replace the Saddledome are accelerating with the conclusion of an agreement in principle.
The city, the Calgary Flames and the Calgary Stampede, which owns the land, have agreed in principle to create an event center that would be the new home of the city's NHL team.
The agreement was to be presented to council in camera on the afternoon of July 22, and then put to a vote on the decision to make it public immediately.
