Jordan Peele was reluctant to enter The twilight zone. Peele finally told a Paleyfest audience how much new blurred area would be at this particular moment. Of the four episodes available to critics, three are full of humor, while one is incredibly tense. Yet, oddly enough, humorous episodes are those that tend to have a less than happy ending.
Speaking of purposes, the new blurred area has a problem with them. The original show was often famous for its endings, accompanied by shocking big revelations that made viewers shit and let them reflect on what they had just watched. This incarnation of the series never quite arrives there. This can often be frustrating because everything that preceded works so well.
Do not be discouraged, however: the new blurred area is a must. Led brilliantly and finding intelligent ways to mix social topics with sci-fi scenarios, the new take on Peele truly looks like the series we need right now. A series that perfectly sums up the odd nightmare in which we find ourselves as a society and asks us to take a deep and hard look. Among all this is an overwhelming number of Easter eggs that make use of iconic series. These help to make the new Zoned to be warm and welcoming – like going home to a familiar place. And it's hard not to have goose bumps at the first appearance of the camera to reveal Peele, dressed in a suit-tie, offering a flowery yet disturbing intro to the story that we are about to see, just as Rod Serling has done for so many years since.
In "The Comedian", Kumail Nanjiani is a stand-up in trouble who can not catch a break. Night after night, he walks on the stage and tells the same tired and unspeakable jokes about gun control and other hot topics. While his career seems to be at its lowest, Nanjiani is visited by a legendary comedian played by Tracy Morgan. Morgan's frightening and cheerful character offers Nanjiani advice and advice that Nanjiani will follow the next time he goes on stage. The results are astounding: the crowd eats, much to the surprise and pleasant surprise of Nanjiani. But when he leaves the scene, he discovers that his life has changed considerably in a strange way. Whenever he makes a set, things change again, in a shocking and more disturbing way. Although Nanjiani is a comedian, and has played in difficult situations in the past, he has never played such a role before. He takes her to dark places and reveals a fan that few filmmakers have exploited so far. Morgan is a special badet here, playing his diabolical character with a constant and disturbing smile.
"Nightmare at 30,000 feet" gets its name from a clbadic Zoned Episode – "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet", in which William Shatner spots a gremlin on the wing of his plane. But this is not a remake. Right here, Adam Scott is a journalist embarking on a long commercial flight and discovers an MP3 player at his seat. The player has a pre-loaded and curious podcast, Scott begins to listen. The host (expressed by bad story podcast host Dan Carlin, in a brilliant piece of waterfall) depicts the true story of an airplane that disappeared from the surface of the earth. If you have guessed that the plane in question is the same one that Scott is on, you know your position. blurred area. "Nightmare" is the most entertaining of the four episodes I've screened. Scott presented a fun performance as a man who was slowly deflating. The only drawback is the conclusion, which makes no sense, even for an episode unfolding in the universe of The twilight zone.
If there is a rotten apple in the pack, it's "The Traveler", an upsetting episode that never settles on what it wants to be. The story takes place on Christmas Eve and features employees from a small local police station in the middle of a Christmas party when an uninvited guest arrives. This guest is a man literally called A. Traveler, played by a Steven Yeun. The manner in which A. Traveler apparently materialized in the police station and what he does there, remains a mystery. But it's finally a mystery with an unsatisfactory solution. The tone of the "traveler" is offbeat and the performances are much too wide – especially Greg Kinnear, playing the local sheriff. Yuen's work is sound, but he belongs to a better episode. There are traces here of clbadic blurred area Episodes such as "The real Martian, do you like, get up?" And "The monsters are due to Maple Street," but "The Traveler" never come to match them. If you are not a fullist, I would advise you not to watch this episode. Unless you want to see Steven Yuen in an elegant suit, which, I admit, is a pretty good stimulant.
The best of the first four episodes is "Rewind", a perfect synthesis of what this modern take on the series can do. Sanaa Lathan, interpreting a painful, serious and often hypnotic performance, plays a woman who finds a way back a certain amount of time – what she continues to do over and over again to save her son (Damson Idris) having met a racist policeman (Glenn Fleshler). Faced with a kind of marmot day Scenario of having to do things again and again, Lathan's character is constantly trying to find new ways to protect his boy – but nothing seems to work. "Rewind" is the embodiment of Serling's idea that "a man seems to have a palpable need not to love anyone other than himself."
