Netflix has announced its next big interactive story – a television series to choose from according to your adventure called You vs wild (Focusing on the "adventure" part here), with Bear Grylls, the survival TV personality best known for its Discovery Channel series Man against Nature, via Variety.

The eight-part episode was announced at the Netflix press conference in Los Angeles and will allow viewers to follow Grylls' adventures around the world as they try to survive in the great outdoors. The problem is that viewers will be able to choose Grylls' decisions in each episode and see how they will unfold (presumably in a safe way, without implying that Grylls will not survive in the wild if users choose badly) . When asked jokingly whether viewers could make choices that would kill Bear Grylls, the vice president of Netflix's original series, Cindy Holland, laughed and said she was not expecting to You Vs Wild as dark as the previous interactive Netflix project, Black Mirror: Bandersnatch.

You vs wild marks the second interactive live action project of Netflix, after Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, who took the Internet storm last winter. Netflix had also previously juggled with interactive shows with animated series like The cat in the book: trapped in an epic tale and one Minecraft show with Telltale Games, but these live efforts represent much larger, more expensive and more publicized projects for the company.

And given that Netflix VP Todd Yellin said last week that the company is "doubling" in interactive storytelling, there's a good chance that You vs wild will only mark the beginning of the company's interactive media ambitions.

Update of March 18 at 14:55: Added additional comments from Netflix Vice President Cindy Holland.
