The agreement between Amazon and GM would give Rivian a value of 1 to 2 billion dollars, according to Reuters Tuesday.
Morgan Stanley thinks that Amazon's involvement means that the e-commerce giant is seizing the opportunity to use its own technology "to shape electric delivery vehicles in order to support its own logistical efforts, "said the firm.
"Amazon has spent the past few years developing and developing its logistics network and has recently invested in the Aurora Autopilot startup," said Jonas.
Regarding GM's involvement, Morgan Stanley has commented on Mary Barra, CEO of GM, about electric vans. Barra said GM believed "in a 100% VE future," while GMC vice president, Duncan Aldred, said that an electric van is "definitely" an opportunity that the company is considering.
Morgan Stanley is very optimistic about the future of electric vans.
"Powertrains for electric vehicles have not yet been applied to the most profitable segments where established US automakers generate profits and cash flow," Jonas said. "We estimate that the full-size pickup truck segment represents more than 100% of global automotive profits for GM and Ford, as well as for the majority of motor vehicles. [Fiat Chrysler]is the overall profit ".
