The President of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the opposition, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP), in power, of mismanaging the economy and set the country to tough test.

In an interview with Citi News at the end of the mid-year budget presented by the finance minister, Ofosu Ampofo said that the NPP had collapsed a number of local industries.

"When our women want to buy bowls and trade abolo, they need small-scale loans that they receive from microfinance companies, but now, more than 300 microfinance companies have collapsed, which kills local economy. So when we say that they [NPP] promise things and do separate things, that's exactly what we said. "

"When DKM was there, the NPP said it would not do politics with it, but what they are doing now is worse than what happened to DKM. About seven local banks collapsed and 300 microfinance companies also closed down, "he said.

Mr. Ofosu Ampofo also complains that "the number of people who have lost their jobs is unimaginable".

"We recently heard on the news that someone would have committed suicide because she was losing her job and that we do not know what people are silently living without entering the public domain. The nuclear power plant has therefore faced untold suffering for the brave people of this country and it is not what they promised.

Comparison of four-year terms

Mr Ampofo said that the 2020 elections would be based on a comparison of the achievements of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration under the presidency of Nana Akufo-Addo and former President John Mahama.

Ofosu Ampofo said the NDC would enter next year's elections comparing President Akufo-Addo's and John Mahama's achievements in infrastructure.

"So the NDC had a chance to compare the recordings with the NPP, in terms of infrastructure. They should tell us the number of schools and hospitals they built, the number of roads they built. Only the NDC government has built all the public universities in the country since Kwame Nkrumah created 3 universities, namely KNUST, the University of Ghana and the University of Cape Coast, but the rest was created by the NDC government. "

"Rawlings set up the University of Development Studies, Professor Mills came to establish the University of Health and Allied Sciences and the University of the region's energy and renewable resources from Brong Ahafo. The University of Winneba Education was established by us and several others. "

"So you ask the BNP what they have done, what is their record in education … We have modernized the polytechnic schools, so we will campaign on our records and we think that our four years spent under Ex-President Mahama is rich enough to move and ask Nana Akufo-Addo to compare her records with ours.
