Accra, April 26th, GNA –
Parliament will adopt the Occupational Safety and Health Bill by:
the end of the year as part of efforts to promote health and safety at work.
"It is vital that we
recognize that the future of work is now with us and that it behooves us to
adopt, adapt and change the nature of work and our workplaces to stay informed
and complies with SST standards. "
Mr. Ignatius Baffour-Awuah,
Minister of Employment and Labor Relations, said Friday to the press
"World Day for Safety and Health at Work" in Accra.
The event, on the
The theme "Safety and health and the future of work" was organized by the
Ministry in collaboration with the Volta River Authority (VRA).
Mr. Baffour-Awuah
called on all actors in the work environment to comply with the
required work and health safety because it was essential for achieving the objectives
National medium-term development goals.
He said the world of
work was evolving at a faster pace, with the influx of modern technologies,
artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things (TOT), among others, which
came with dangers and deficiencies.
"We can not act
unaware of the accidents and injuries that these technologies may pose to the
labor force, "he said.
Mr. Baffour-Awuah stated
the social partners have demonstrated sufficient commitment to promoting OHS
standards to ensure the well-being and well-being of employees, adding that
Stakeholders should not give up on this effort.
He said the
the importance of safety and health at the workplace was undeniably the key to
complete realization of the decent work agenda in Ghana.
Mr. Baffour-Awuah stated
there was overwhelming evidence that certain categories of the
Ghanaian workplaces have been exposed to occupational hazards and hazards,
progress has also been made in the administration of OSH standards through
awareness, advocacy, compliance and enforcement.
"It's my fervent
hope that Ghana will meet the OSH SDGs sooner than expected

He said that the move would be

Mr. Andrew A. Tagoe,
Deputy Secretary General of the Agriculture Workers Union of the General Agriculture Sector
Congress of Trade Unions (TUC), called on the government to develop and implement a
national legislation and regulations on OSH.
He said the work
Inspection Division of the Ministry of Employment and Labor Relations shall
be able to intensify inspections at all workplaces to ensure safety.
