Alelia Murphy, considered America's oldest living woman, has lived 114 years, but this year's celebrations could all be celebrated.

To pay tribute to the oldest person living in the United States, officials in Harlem, New York, sent him a unique gift this Saturday, on the anniversary of his birthday. "Alelia Murphy appreciation day."

Senator Brian Benjamin presented Murphy with a framed poster and a copy of the statement.

During his remarks, Benjamin called Murphy a "Harlem landmark" and thanked her for her contributions to the community.

Born in North Carolina in 1905, the supercentenarian, who is at least 110 years old, has lived in Harlem since 1926, when she moved to Manhattan at the height of her cultural renaissance.

Years of involvement with community and church organizations have made it a local icon.

She became a widow in 1953 and supported her two children as a seamstress for most of her life.
