A member of the National Democratic Congress communications team, Benjamin Essuman, said the only achievement of Zongo and the city’s development ministry was the beautification of the President’s House residence at Nima in Accra.
Speaking on Morning Starr, Mr. Essuman said there was no need to create the ministry during Akufo-Addo’s first term; adding that the president is not to be praised for demolishing the ministry.
“Ghana, a poor country, had 126 ministers and such an embarrassment was defended by the president who said he was in a hurry. Only God knows where he was in a hurry. What has been the achievement of a ministry like the purchasing ministry? The only success of the Zongo ministry is the embellishment of the president’s entrance to Nima.
Mr Essuman also described the appointment of Hawa Koomson as fisheries minister as an embarrassment.
“A minister who fired a gun has been known to be a motivational symbol for ‘my daughter’. Ghana deserves better than what Akufo-Addo and his people give us.
The president on Thursday released a total of 46 ministers for his second term, a reduction from the 126 who served in his first term. About fifteen ministers from the president’s first term were selected for the second term.
The president in a statement said on Thursday that the list of ministers would be submitted to parliament for verification.
The statement noted that the president has scrapped the office of the senior minister. He further noted that eight of the 46 ministers would be women.
