A new, strong message to Times Square from the New Jersey Drug Free Partnership highlights the dangers of prescription opioids.

The video display panel, created by Concepts Video Productions of Towaco, N.J., will be showcased in Times Square and on public transit. The campaign features a man trapped in a medicine bottle with the title: "In just 5 days, opioid addiction can begin."

This message illustrates how fast a person can become opioid dependent. It is essential that everyone become aware of the dangers of prescription opioids and be informed of them before being prescribed opioids for pain. Talk to your prescriber about these risks and ask about alternatives to opioids. "

Angelo Valente, Executive Director of PDFNJ

"Each year we select a volunteer project that will have an impact on the world. The opioid epidemic and addiction have had a profound impact on America," said Collette Liantonio, director of creation at Concepts Video.

The opioid epidemic has killed more than 47,000 people in the United States in 2017 and initial estimates for 2018 indicate an even greater number of overdose deaths. Recent research has shown that nearly 80% of people who use heroin have reported having used prescription opioids before they consume heroin.

"We hope this highly visible effort will make a significant difference in the fight against opioid and drug abuse," said Jon Calderaro, Executive Vice President of Concepts.

New ads appear on digital signage at 11 Times Square at 42North Dakota Street and 8th Avenue, joining the residents of New Jersey who are going to the nearby Port Authority bus terminal, as well as New Yorkers and other visitors to New York's landmark. The advertisement was coordinated by Elaine Pozycki, co-chair of the New Jersey Drug Free Partnership.
