Emmanuel Buah, former Minister of Energy
The Akufo-Addo government has not acted with due diligence regarding the agreement signed by Ghana with Power Distribution Services (PDS) Limited, said Emmanuel Buah, former Minister of Energy.
The government of Ghana recently suspended its concession agreement with PDS.
The decision was communicated by a press release from the Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, on Tuesday, July 30, 2019.
According to the statement, the pending agreement was made necessary by "the detection of fundamental and substantial breaches of the PDS obligation in the provision of payment guarantees (on-demand guarantees) for the transaction that were discovered during subsequent checks ".
The government stated that a full investigation had been initiated on the agreement and that steps had been taken to ensure that "the distribution, billing and payment services remain uninterrupted".
The public has been badured that the development "will not interfere with the distribution of electricity services to customers".
Mr. Buah said on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 in Kwabena Prah Jnr (The Don) about Accra100.5FM: "This is the short-term vision of this government we are talking about; they are super incompetent and without vision. It is a government that has gone astray. "
"The PDS contract was not executed properly, we warned the government but this government did not listen."
"The only solution to these problems is to vote for the NPP and bring back the NDC because the NDC has a good track record in the energy sector," he added.
Mr. Buah asked, "What was the government's interest in allowing PDS to operate without collateral? I challenge everyone to check the structure of this company's shareholding. "
