Mike Phelan wants to combine his roles with Manchester United and the Central Coast Mariners beyond this season.

Phelan was Deputy Director of United in 2008, when Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013, before moving to Norwich and Hull City.

Aged 56, he was appointed athletic director of the Australian Mariners last July, forming a brief and weird double act with Usain Bolt at one point.

He however returned to Old Trafford in December as badistant to interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and hopes to retain his two roles after the end of the season.

"It's only the evolution of the situation over the next two months," Phelan told FOX Football podcast.

"It's a busy time for Manchester United, of course, but the season is coming to an end in Australia. I think once decisions are made in England, we can reopen these discussions with the Mariners and hope that the partnership can continue.

"I think that's a good example. It's a good idea to be badociated with the Mariners, and obviously a Mariners badociation with Manchester United is always a good thing.

"It all depends on if and if for the moment, but I would definitely keep my interest in the Mariners."
