The RB Leipzig has asked its star striker Timo Werner to make a decision as to his future, as the German enters the final year of his contract. If a decision is not made soon, the club could actively seek to unload it this summer.
The 23-year-old is widely regarded as one of Europe's most exciting young talents, scoring 16 times and providing seven badists in 30 Bundesliga matches last season. As a result, it has attracted major interest from all over Europe.
He remains 11 months to Werner on his current contract with the German team and, although the club has proposed a new contract in January, the player still has not taken the pen to extend his contract. Leipzig certainly wants to stay ahead, but they may lose it for free next summer and therefore demand an answer.
"We do not want to establish an ultimatum, but we must finally make a decision," said RB Leipzig General Manager Oliver Mintzlaff in Austria, quoted by the Mirror.
"It is desirable that we have a solution before the start of the league, we can and want to respect this schedule.
"We have good constructive discussions that will lead to a result, we have submitted a contract offer to Timo and his consultant and we stick to that and we do not have to improve it."
The CEO continued:
"Werner's subject has occupied the media more than ourselves, but, of course, we will eventually need a decision."
