President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo signing the constitutional instrument at the ceremony
The Brong Ahafo region, which was less than two months old to celebrate its sixtieth birthday, was split into three regions yesterday with the creation of two new regions, Bono East and Ahafo.
Techiman, a sprawling mall, has been named the capital of Bono East, with Goaso as the capital of Ahafo.
At separate ceremonies at the Jubilee House, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo introduced the Constitutional Instrument (CI 113) which created the Bono East region to the supreme chief of the traditional Yeji region and the president of the Regional House of Brong Ahafo Chiefs, Pimampim Yaw Kagbrese V, while the CI 114, who created the Ahafo Region, was introduced to the Omanhene of the Yamfo Traditional Area and Chair of the Ahafo Chiefs Council, Nana Ansah Adu Baah.
The delegations of the two new regions who were at Jubilee House were jubilant when the President presented the keys to their leaders at ceremonies.
East Bono Region
At the inauguration of the Bono East region, President Akufo-Addo asked the current Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Mr. Evans Opoku Bobie, to take over the supervision of the region.
The President declared that a new era of progress and prosperity had begun for the inhabitants of the Bono-Est region, an enclave of ethnic diversity and representing about two-thirds of the total area of the Brong Ahafo region .
Petition
After receiving a petition from 14 traditional zone chiefs in the municipalities and districts of the proposed Bono-Est region, President Akufo-Addo stated that he had referred the matter to the State Council, in accordance with the Constitution, which had led to the establishment commission of inquiry, paving the way for public hearings and the receipt of other petitions from everyone.
Opportunity
The President said that the creation of the six new regions "offers us the opportunity to better meet the needs of the populations of these new regions through the effective reorganization and distribution of our public services and infrastructure".
He added that the government's projects and infrastructure would be distributed equitably across the six regions and called on the population to help the government develop the new regions.
To demonstrate the government's commitment to the development of the six regions, said the president, a starting capital of 20 million GH ¢ was allocated to launch the development of each region.

Pimampim Kagbrese, on behalf of the chiefs and residents of the new region, thanked President Akufo-Addo for taking into account their request to create the region.
Ahafo Region
Speaking about the establishment of the Ahafo region, President Akufo-Addo said that Mr. Evans Opoku Bobie, the current regional minister of Brong Ahafo, would badume the functions of regional minister from Ahafo until the appointment of a regional background minister for the new region.
He added that the people of Ahafo had petitioned successive governments for nearly 40 years, dating back to 1981, but that their efforts had yielded no results.
He expressed his satisfaction with the turnout at the public hearing in the Ahafo region and said that about 20,203 people had attended the five public hearings held in the region. Ahafo proposed at the time.
President Akufo-Addo mentioned some of the resources that could be found in the region in the form of gold, diamonds, iron ore and bauxite and said that, with these resources, the development potential of the region clearly existed.
This, he said, would also improve employment and strengthen the socio-economic development of the region.

Botwe condemned the acts of lawlessness that welcomed Damongo's choice as the capital of the newly created Savannah region last Tuesday.
He added that nearly seven people had been arrested so far, while security agencies continued to search for other perpetrators.
He hoped the law would deal with these people.
Mr. Botwe, who took the time to explain the circumstances that led to the selection of Damongo as the capital, declared on January 12, after the referendum, that the suzerain of Gonjaland had met with all the supreme leaders, the leaders of opinion and his campaign team and thanked each and every one of them. for the campaign that he describes as very successful.
He added that Yagbonwura also took the opportunity to ask his people to support Damongo as the regional capital, for which he presented a petition to the president.
