Jamie Redknapp, a Sky Sports expert, advised Frank Lampard to take over at Stamford Bridge if, as expected, current Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri returned to Italy to take over Juventus.

Lampard, who is linked to Redknapp, is considered a hero at Chelsea and is their all-time leading scorer with 211 goals in 648 games for the club.

He won praise for his first season at Derby County management, taking part in the playoff final before being defeated by Aston Villa.

Sarri, meanwhile, was not warmly impressed by the Stamford Bridge faithful, even though he won the Europa League and led the Blues to a third place. He is quite certain to leave England after only a year in the head.

Redknapp has no doubt that Lampard is the man to take care of in Chelsea.

Talk to Sky Sports News he said, "Frank would be the perfect person.

"Maurizio Sarri is still the manager, so until that changes, if it were to change and if they need a manager next year, they need somebody. One who will come to stabilize the club.

"They have lost their best player (Eden Hazard) and they have an embargo on transfers of two or three windows, so you need someone everyone likes and who will give them time."

For the moment, it is understood that Chelsea did not contact Derby about Lampard, but if they are successful, Redknapp thinks Lampard will also bring in his badistant, Jody Morris, another former Chelsea player.

Redknapp added: "[Lampard] he knows the game and Jody Morris will obviously follow him if he does. Jody knows all the young players and will want to give them a chance.

"It would be interesting, but the fans here would like one of theirs – they never left for an English manager, as far as I can remember.

"I think Frank would be a great choice, but whatever they do, whatever it is, even if it's not Frank, they will have to be patient.

"If you have lost Hazard, it's a huge loss for any team, so the manager needs time and the club has to declare from the start that this manager will have a good two or three years to work, stuff. "
