Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote, considered the richest man in Africa, said Saturday in front of a forum in Cote d 'Ivoire that he had already withdrawn $ 10 million in cash from the bank, just to watch it and convince it that it was good real money. numbers on paper.
"When you're young, your first million is important, but after that, the numbers do not really mean much," said Dangote, a manufacturing magnate of various flour cement companies at the Mo Ibrahim forum in Abidjan. .
"One day, I cashed 10 million euros, I put them in the trunk of my car, then in my room.I looked at them and I said to myself:" now, I believe that I have money "and I reported it to the bank the next day" he told his audience.
The anecdotes aside, Dangote said that agriculture and new technologies were the two most promising sectors for Africa's future. But he advised young African entrepreneurs not to be swept away by the first successes.
"Often in Africa, we spend our expected income, there are ups and downs" in business, he warned.
Dangote regretted the customs and administrative problems that hinder business development across the continent.
For example, he cited the difficulties faced by his cement group in exporting Nigerian factories to Benin 40 km from the border. Benin instead imported "more expensive" cement from China.
