The new breed of femme fatales are young, pretty – and they can kill you!
The ongoing case of Chidinma Ojukwu has gripped – and shocked – the nation and the only question everyone is asking is why a young woman like her killed a grown man.
The answer is simply – money!
If her victim, the late Michael Usifo Ataga, did not have a good relationship and the police were forced to act, she could have gotten away with it: how many homicides go uninvestigated every day in Nigeria! Perhaps in the hundreds, the police department is pushed to its limits and lacks the trained personnel to deal with every crime committed. And unless the victim’s family has the weight or the money, the police will sweep the case under the rug (- that’s if it’s reported to them in the first place). And if she was caught, as she was, she will claim that she acted in self-defense (- a plea she has already entered) and given her small size compared to her victim, with a good lawyer and a big bribe to the police, she’s going to come down. And the stubborn media circus that followed his arrest means his court trial, later, will be flawed due to conflicting stories or “confessions”: under the scrutiny of “expert” journalists and OAPs, she has changed her version of events countless times.
Whichever way you look at the case, what we’re seeing here is premeditated crime: pretty young girls are being used as (or used as) bait to trap rich men. Not content with being “girls on the side” where they have an apartment, a car, an allowance and the occasional Dubai getaway, they want it all. And to do so, they will kill their wealthy clients and steal whatever they can. Normally prostitutes do it, but now it’s spreading.
Again, there is no record to indicate how many men were robbed and killed by these femme fatales.
To say that most of these young women act alone is an understatement: subduing an adult man and forcing him to pass on critical information about himself, such as bank details and PINs, is hardly a woman’s job. little girl. . It will be others, and in Chidinma’s case, the others may still be on the run. If she sticks to her “self-defense” story, the worst she can be blamed for will be manslaughter, taking her money will be up for debate as to whether or not it gave her access to her bank accounts. . Since the dead cannot speak, we will never know.
A honey trap, using pretty maidens to trap men, is as old as the Bible itself when Samson’s enemies used Delilah to trap him and cut his hair. Since the Chidinma case became public, other similar stories have started to emerge; a wealthy businessman was stabbed to death in a Port Harcourt hotel and his “girlfriend” and two friends fled in his Lexus SUV. She was not caught until the victim’s family activated the tracker in the vehicle and found her; other men were found dead in hotel rooms, foaming at their mouths, a sign of administered poison, without all their valuables and companions. Or they just ask their gang to kidnap him the old-fashioned way, hold him for ransom and then kill him once paid so that there are no witnesses to the crime. And as usual, the police won’t bother to investigate properly. Looks like Chidinma and Co must have read all “My Sister, the Serial Killer” a novel by Oyinkan Braithwaite in which the main character, Ayoola, goes on a killing spree, killing all of her boyfriends – but doesn’t steal their valuables – and gets away with it.
The question we should ask ourselves, as a society, is why young people – not just girls – are killing other human beings without thinking about the implications. Has life gotten so cheap that you can kill a few people without feeling remorse and think you can get away with it? (- Cultists, kidnappers, armed robbers etc. take note!).
Many people will argue that poverty and the prospect of a bleak future lead many young people to commit heinous crimes. May be. But that’s no excuse to take a life because you want to show off on Instagram and Facebook. When you are part of a generation that yearns for easy and quick money and fame, you will undoubtedly turn to crime to make your dreams come true: if Chidinma had run away from her crime and s was buying a brand new SUV, no one would ask where she got the money from.
Chidinma and Co won’t be the last to turn away their wealthy clients. There will be others. As long as society has nothing bad to say about people who lead extravagant, flashy lives and cannot prove their source of income, these types of crimes will continue. So if you are a man who hangs out with “sidekicks”, other people’s wives or prostitutes, you better watch your back before someone stabs a knife in!
