The Rolling Stones have released a Charlie Watts tribute video, following the drummer’s death at the age of 80 this week.
The rock and roll world has come together to greet Watts after his death peacefully surrounded by his family in a London hospital on Tuesday.
His band mates – Keith Richards, Sir Mick Jagger and Ronnie Wood – had shared their own tributes, but the band have now released a video to honor the late musician.
The two-minute clip, shared on social media, featured a montage of Watts of his nearly 60-year career with the band, from early days to modern touring.
He was seen smiling alongside Richards, Jagger and Wood.
In a comeback clip, Watts discussed being invited to join the Rolling Stones in 1963, admitting he thought they would only last a year before going to bed.
In another sequence, he tossed a wand into an adoring crowd after being tagged “The Wembley Whammer” by Jagger.
Throughout the edit, Watts, known to be the most balanced of the group, appeared elegantly dressed in tailored suits – another of his hallmarks.
The tribute ended with a picture of his battery with a “closed” sign hanging on it.
Richards, 77, used the same photo in his tribute after Watts’ death while Jagger, 78, opted for a smiling photo of his friend in his social media post.
Wood, 74, shared a photo of him and Watts on Twitter, writing alongside: “I love you my compatriot Gemini – I will miss you very much – you are the best.”
The Rolling Stones are due to embark on their 13-date No Filter tour of the United States next month and a rep has confirmed that it will still continue.
Watts was not ready to participate as he recovered from an unspecified medical procedure.
