At the Embu Children's Hospital, students said that they became ill Wednesday after a breakfast consisting of rice and beans.

One student stated that his illness had started after he had eaten his rice and ndengu supper.
Health break
"We alerted the service teacher and the school administration organized for our trip to the hospital," said the student.
Yesterday, more than 1,000 school students left school for a health break following a directive Friday by Embu County Education Director James Kairu.
"We decided to give students a healthy break week to pave the way for thorough investigations and medical tests for hepatitis A," he said.
A technical team from the County Health Department is investigating the cause of the infection and will carry out an in-depth cleaning of the school.
