A Serie B match was stopped five seconds after the kickoff and then dropped as a result of a head injury to Lecce midfielder Manuel Scavone.
The 31-year-old, loaned by Parma, collided with Ascoli striker Giacomo Beretta and hit him hard on the head.
Lecce stated that Scavone had been treated on the ground and had regained consciousness before being taken to the hospital.
The game was then canceled until a "date to be determined".
The Vito Fazzi Hospital in Lecce said that Scavone was "out of danger".
In a statement, the hospital said the state of Scavone was "good" and that they had performed several tests that were all negative. He will be kept in the hospital under observation for 24 hours.
