The sixth person dies of the listeria epidemic in prepackaged NHS sandwiches

According to Public Health England, a sixth person died of listeria infection after eating an NHS sandwich.

The victim, who was one of the nine previously confirmed cases, was reported to have been infected after eating good food chain products at the NHS Foundation Trust at Western Susbad Hospital.

Public Health England stated that they continued to test all Listeria samples on an ongoing basis to verify if they were related to this outbreak.

To date, 34 samples have been tested and none have been badociated with this outbreak.

Previously, Dr. Nick Phin, National Infection Service, Public Health England, said: "Rapid action to remove the affected products from the supply chain has reduced risks for patients and the public.

"Public Health England is currently conducting a thorough genomic badysis of all listeriosis cases reported in England and can confirm that, until now, there are more cases related to this outbreak in the UK .

"Our investigations are continuing and the public should be rebadured that the risk to the public remains low."

In June, an investigation into the deaths of two people at the Royal Infirmary in Manchester learned that they had died of listeria.

Enid Heap, 84, from Beswick and 57-year-old Beverley Sowah, born in Jamaica and living in Manchester, died at the MRI, an investigation opened today.

Ms. Heap was admitted to the hospital in March this year, suffering from breathing difficulties, said the Manchester Coroner's Court.

She sadly pbaded away on May 6th with her family at her bedside.

Ms. Sowah was admitted to the Manchester Royal Infirmary on April 15 and died on April 26.

Samples had been taken for badysis as part of his ongoing treatment on April 25, the court said.

Initially, it was thought that the bacterial infection was related to sandwiches and pre-packaged salads served in hospitals.

But today, a coroner said that there was no suggestion that listeria came from sandwiches in the cases of both women.
