Highlife singer Kidi has confided to Amakye Dede, an experienced Highlife musician, who has crowned Kuami Eugene as "Future of Highlife" in the Ghanaian music industry at the recent Vodafone Ghana ceremony Music Awards (VGMA) 2019.

Some industry players expressed dissatisfaction with the move, saying other high profile artists also deserved this honor. Others have suggested that Bisa Kdei or K.K. Fosu, among other renowned artists who draw the highlife genre, was supposed to be honored rather than Kuami Eugene, who appeared just two years ago.

However, speaking of Hitz FM's Daybreak Hitz, Kidi said that he could not understand why people were raising concerns because, indirectly or directly, he deserved it.

He supported his claim that Kuami Eugene won the title of "Highlife Artist of the Year" at the VGMA.

"I was right about to go on stage when that happened and I heard Amakye Dede crown it. We laughed when he came backstage. We know he is incredible and has won two years in a row. The sky is enough for all the stars to shine, so I do not see why people are complaining." he said.

When asked if this had happened to him because he is also a singer who emerged on the music scene with Kuami Eugene, Kidi simply replied:I do not let these things happen to me. I am all about positive energy."
