The statue of a white angel overcoming a black devil puts Ghanaians badly at ease and anger Ghana news

The installation of a biblically inspired sculpture in the cave of a Catholic church in Ghana provoked a certain reaction from the public, sometimes called racist.

A statue erected by the Roman Catholic Church Tepa in his cave has led some Ghanaians to address social media to express their disgust and anger because of the skin colors of the characters in the statue.

The statue sees a white-skinned angel standing triumphant in front of a dark-skinned devil with a sword in his hand.

Any observer familiar with Christian symbolism speaks of the victory of God and his people over the devil.

But of course, the representation of who is the "good guy" and who is the "bad guy" has proven problematic.

Some people see the statue and remember the symbols of white purity and black inferiority used and still used to perpetrate some of the worst crimes in history.

Ghanaians of social media have strongly condemned the statue as racist, thus giving credence to the ideology of white supremacy since its photo was posted on Facebook on Monday, March 25, 2019.

Some people have criticized the statue with the utmost firmness.

But still others thought it was a harmless representation of belief.

The debate will not be exhausted on social media. In fact, the subject of the glorification of whiteness and the damnation of darkness predated social media.

Whatever the feeling of the subject is, it tends to shape the identity of a generation.
