BRAINS could be merged with technology to form a "human brain / cloud interface" in a few decades.
US scientists propose that nanorobotic technology will soon be inserted into our brain, making science fiction dreams a reality.
A team of scientists led by Robert Freitas Jr, a nanotechnology researcher at the Institute for Molecular Manufacturing in California, published an article explaining how incredibly small machines could soon be part of us.
Freitas said: "These devices would navigate the human vascular system, cross the blood-brain barrier and position themselves precisely between and even within brain cells.
"They would then wirelessly transmit the coded information to and from a network of cloud supercomputers for real-time monitoring of the brain's state and data extraction."
The search was published in Frontiers in Neuroscience.
Future technology could provide all humans who are equipped with instant access to global knowledge and artificial intelligence.
All you need to do is think of a question and immediately know the answer rather than enter it into a search engine.
It could change the way humans communicate, educate and work forever.
The proposed neuronal nanobots could connect the neocortex of the human brain to a "synthetic neocortex" in the cloud, which would allow the brain to download information.
What are nanobots?
- A nanometer is a billionth of a meter and nanobots are machines or devices of this size.
- Nanorobotics refers to the field of nanobot construction, although much work in this area is still largely theoretical.
- Until now, no unnatural artificial nanorobot has been officially created, so it remains hypothetical.
- The robots are designed to allow precise interactions with other tiny objects
Freitas added, "With the advancement of neuralnanorobotics, we envision the future creation of" super-brains "capable of mastering the thinking and thinking power of many humans and machines in real time.
"This shared cognition could revolutionize democracy, strengthen empathy, and ultimately unite groups of diverse cultures into a truly global society."
This brain interface technology may seem like a weird concept, but could actually be possible given the speed with which technology is progressing and the fact that the Internet, as we know it, was created there is a just under 30 years old.
Last year, scientists invented a three-way brain-connection technology called BrainNet, which allowed three people to share their thoughts and play games using only their minds.
