Liverpool took a lead in the Premier League after a goalless draw at Manchester United, on a weekend when Tottenham lost ground by bowing 2-1. to Burnley.
While the Spurs remain in third place, Arsenal took fourth place with a comfortable victory over Southampton.
Leicester fired coach Claude Puel after a 4-1 home defeat by Crystal Palace. Three penalties were inflicted, including two, while the Wolves drew 1-1 in Bournemouth.
Watford won the biggest win of the weekend, beating Cardiff 5-1 with Gerard Deulofeu's hat trick on Friday. Victories were also won by Newcastle and West Ham against the last two.
But the most dramatic scenes – including later – took place in the final victory of the Carabao Cup in Manchester City on penalties against Chelsea at Wembley.

Goalkeeper – Alisson (Liverpool)
The rescue of Alisson while Jesse Lingard tried to bypbad the Brazilian international has changed the situation at Old Trafford.
Apart from everything else, I thought it was a specific goal. Would I have done exactly like Lingard? Absolutely.
Alison was so attentive to what the attacker was going to do – and took the ball so neatly – that there was no hint of a penalty call.
Liverpool was leading the standings Sunday because of Alisson's moment of glory.
Did you know? Alisson has kept its clean 15 sheets in the Premier League this season, three more than any other goalkeeper.
Defenders – Issa Diop (West Ham), James Tarkowski (Burnley), Victor Lindelof (Manchester United), Nathan Ake (Bournemouth)
Issa DiopThe French produced a performance similar to Everton earlier in the season. This time, her contribution was rewarded with a brilliant goal against a Fulham team who got what she deserved.
What was Ryan Sessegnon doing in scoring Diop in the corners? Who was the brilliant spark who arranged this shift?
Diop took full advantage of the poor organization of Fulham If you want to score your first goal in the league for the club, as much in front of your own fans.
Did you know? In addition to scoring his first Premier League goal, Diop got more clearances than any West Ham player (four) in his Fulham victory.
James Tarkowski: Regarding the competitors, they do not come much better than James Tarkowski. The English defender's exploits at the back caused a lot of pain in Tottenham on Saturday.
The reaction of manager Mauricio Pochettino after the match has all said. His match with referee Mike Dean was the clearest proof that Spurs had lost any chance of winning the title. His behavior, though out of character, was useless and ugly, and certainly would not change the outcome.

Victor Lindelof: The fact that four Manchester United players were injured in the first half against Liverpool – with three substitutes – must be replaced – but it is still a white goal and a point against Liverpool is close to the miracle.
United's fans were incredible and kept their team exhausted while they spent a good part of the match under the cosh. I thought Victor Lindelof was a rock – incredible. Without a doubt, he is the most improved player of United this season.
Did you know? Lindelof recorded the best pbading accuracy (94%) and got more clearance than any other Manchester United player against Liverpool.
Nathan Ake: I remember watching Nathan Ake play for Chelsea Under-21 at Selhurst Park a few years ago and he distinguished himself at that time.
At the time, I never thought that he was good enough to be part of the top four teams, as was the case at Chelsea at the time, but is he comparable to Antonio Rudiger or Andreas Christensen today? I think it probably does, you know.
The central defender of Bournemouth was huge against a threatening Wolves attack and worth every penny spent on him.
Did you know? Ake got 14 clearances for Bournemouth, eight more than any other player on both teams in their 1-1 draw against the Wolves.
Midfielders – Gerard Deulofeu (Watford), Paul Pogba (Manchester United), Luka Milivojevic (Crystal Palace), Raheem Sterling (Manchester City)
Gerard Deulofeu: You never know what kind of display you'll get from Gerard Deulofeu – but when he's hot, he smokes. It was a magnificent treble against Cardiff by a very talented footballer.
I thought Neil Warnock was about to explode when Simon Hooper refused to award a penalty to Cardiff after Daryl Janmaat's evil tackle on Watch on Josh Murphy. The conclusion he will reach once he has seen the three penalties inflicted by Roger East in the match against Bournemouth-Wolves is obvious.
Did you know? Deulofeu scored the first round of Watford's hat since 1986, when Mark Falco scored three goals against Leicester.
Paul Pogba: I'm starting to become a big fan of Paul Pogba. Yes, I know it's a little embarrbading for me, especially after the lawsuits I gave him all last season. But with the success of the World Cup on his resume, and especially since the departure of Jose Mourinho, Pogba has taken a form that should rank him among the top five midfielder players of the world.
In a United States team ravaged by injuries in the first period Sunday, his performance was immense. It was Pogba who was playing for Manchester United in a way that I had not seen it before. He became an adult.
Did you know? Only Ashley Young (30) has attempted more pbades in Liverpool half for Manchester United than Pogba (24).
Luka Milivojevic: By the time referee Anthony Taylor indicated the venue at King Power Stadium, there was no doubt in my mind that Luka Milivojevic would step in and charge Leicester, and in particular Jonny Evans.
What neither player knew was that it was a result that would cost Claude Puel his job.
To be brutally honest, a player from Evans' experience should have known better than to be as clumsy in the box.
Meanwhile, Milivojevic continues to take on cool leadership on the field, which is a perfect reflection of Roy Hodgson's dugout. An excellent victory for the Eagles.
Did you know? Milivojevic has scored more goals in the Premier League (20) than any player at the Palace since his debut in February 2017.
Raheem SterlingAfter eliminating Tottenham from the Carabao Cup on penalties, Chelsea's appearance in the final proved to be a test.
Raheem Sterling put the Blues to the sword by placing the winning penalty in front of Kepa Arrizabalaga. The Spanish international goalkeeper was determined to be the hero of Wembley and refused to leave the field when his coach replaced him.

Did you know? Sterling has only scored his second penalty in Manchester City, and the first since his conversion against Watford in September 2017.
The fronts – Ashley Barnes (Burnley), Wilfried Zaha (Crystal Palace)
Ashley Barnes: If Burnley continues to play as he did against Tottenham on Saturday, then they have nothing to fear.
Chris Wood and Ashley Barnes have been exceptional in recent weeks, but unfortunately only one could be part of my team this week.
It was a performance infused with old spit and Lancashire polish with little time for culture. The fact was that Tottenham could not stand Burnley's courage and bite. And if you can not handle the grain and bite away from home, you do not have to talk about titles.
Did you know? Barnes has now scored four consecutive Premier League games, his best joint performance in the division.
Wilfried Zaha: I've seen Wilfried Zaha play better and not be part of the team of the week, but it's very difficult to leave an attacker out of my selection when he scores two goals and his team takes it out.
I am also of the opinion that a fit Kasper Schmeichel could have saved both of Zaha's goals; I've also seen the Leicester goalkeeper play better. Both are exceptional players, but there is no doubt that Zaha has won.
Let's hope that the Ivorian continues to rush in the air to celebrate his goals and stops beating in the hands of the referee with a sarcastic arrogance.

The crooks of the material
I do not think I have seen anything like that during all my time in football. See Kepa Arrizabalaga staying on the ground and refusing to accept the manager's decision to replace him is the most disrespectful answer I've ever seen in professional gaming.
The final of the Carabao Cup, which took place on Sunday, was not a friendly match or a pre-season game, but a final at the Wembley club. What has precisely affected this incident to Maurizio Sarri's reputation for management, not to mention his already fragile position at Stamford Bridge, is not surprising. The humiliation was palpable.
What I found even more extraordinary is that Kepa did not understand the importance of what he was doing, himself, his teammates and especially his manager.
Sarri, in a brave attempt to put a lid on the incident, said that the case was other than a misunderstanding. A misunderstanding indeed.
It was an act of pure and total indulgence. If Sarri were to survive this embarrbadment, Kepa should not play another game for Chelsea without a sincere and sincere apology to his coach, the club, his teammates and his supporters. And he should think himself lucky, he still has a contract.
