Avengers: End of the game can come to the theaters in a few more months, but that did not detract from the interest of the details of Avengers: war in the infinite. Fans have been bent over the movie looking for clues of all kinds and now, a fan may have found something that suggests that Thanos deliberately spared several Guardians – at least until the slap .
As fans of War of Infinity I know that Star-Lord and Drax ended up being covered in dust when Thanos snapped his fingers while Nebula survived. However, as a Reddit user notes, during the Battle of Titan, Thanos had every chance to kill these characters, but he did not – and that does not seem to be an accident.
According to the theory that you can read completely here, while Thanos had shown that he could control the intensity of the Power Stone, Titan came out of the hypnotic state in which Mantis held him, he was angry. Like, he threw a moon even. It's pretty rage. He even slays Star-Lord, Drax and Nebula with a blast of the power stone, but as this fan noticed when he returned to see the scene, frame by frame, he noticed that the stone soul is briefly shining and activated.
The delivery? Thanos activated the Stone of Souls to keep Star-Lord, Drax and Nebula alive, at least until pressure can decide who lives and who dies for him.
The idea that Thanos would spare them at least temporarily is curious. As fans have learned in the movie, Mad Titan adored Gamora. Having just sacrificed it for the stone, he might have some kind of sense of honor that would prevent him from killing those near Gamora. Punishment is a kind of unpredictable thing, after all.
It's also possible that Thanos simply wanted to avoid killing anyone, just for the snap to do its job to create an organic balance. Some fans have commented that Thanos was a lot less aggressive in the second half of the movie when he really could have made his way up to the stones he needed.
If Thanos uses the soul stone to temporarily spare Star-Lord, Drax and Nebula with sadness and sentimentality, this gives the character a bit of humanity for a lack of a better term, which fits well with another recent fan. theory: that Thanos will eventually be redeemed and become an anti-hero somehow in the MCU.
What do you think? Do you think Thanos deliberately spared Star-Lord, Drax and Nebula until the breakdown? Tell us what your opinion is on this new theory in the comments below.
Avengers: End of the game opens on April 26th. Other Marvel Studios films this year include Captain Marvel March 8 and Spider-Man: far from home the 5 of July.
