The Department of Defense did not officially declare what it used against the drone, but MADIS was present aboard the Boxer at the time. You can see it on the tanned vehicle in the photo above.
The incident illustrates the rapid evolution of the nature of the war. Increasingly, the United States is finding ways to take action against military targets without firing a shot. They reportedly used a cyberattack to disable Iran's missile control systems in June. These theoretically avoid triggering more ferocious conflicts. As you can imagine, the question is whether this will prevent escalation that may include conventional military responses. Although Iran has not launched a full counter-attack at this stage (the seizure of its ships is not a direct response), it is to be feared that these "softer" methods will still cause more intense reactions in certain circumstances.
