The Western Section of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) will soon launch a regional media awards system recognizing the professionalism and outstanding performance of journalists.
The rewards system has already benefited from the support of civil society groups, professional organizations and public institutions.
A statement issued and signed by Zambia Regional Secretary Rufai Saminu, with a copy to the Ghana News Agency in Takoradi, said the regional executive would soon announce the date and structure of the awards.
This is part of the Regional Executive's activities to commemorate World Press Freedom Day, which takes place on May 3 each year.
This year's theme was "Media for Democracy: Journalism and Elections in Times of Misinformation".
The statement urged members and non-members of the West and North West regions to strive to uphold the profession's ethics and code of conduct, which were key principles. of journalism.
"We would like to express our deepest regret for the few unprovoked attacks that the region recorded during the year under review as a result of misunderstandings and altercations between police and two of the country's main political parties," It said.
The declaration committed to remaining firmly behind all media professionals and to ensuring the executive's cooperation with the Regional Coordination Councils (RCCs) of the two regions and with other stakeholders to carry out the development program. .
He praised media professionals for daring to hold public officials accountable while reporting on issues of national interest.
