Udeme Otike-Odibi (right) is accused of murdering her husband Sym at their home in Lagos while planning to fly to the United Kingdom
A woman who allegedly claimed revenge for her unfaithful husband stabbed him to death before cutting his penis and placing it in his lifeless hands, a court said.
Lawyer Udeme Otike-Odibi, 47, is accused of having murdered her husband Sym, 50, after discovering that he had an affair.
After having beaten him with a stove, stabbed him and cut off his penis, she is accused of having told his corpse that he would have been "better without him".
Otike-Odibi, who has dual British and Nigerian citizenship and was planning to travel to the UK from their home in Lekki (Lagos, Nigeria), was also charged with mutilating her husband's body.
She is still in detention in Lagos during her trial in the High Court of Igbosere.
The homicide police chief, Olusegun Bamidele, told the court: "She stated that the deceased person had extramarital affairs and, whenever she told him about the problem, his answers were not correct. were not satisfactory.
He appeared nonchalant.
"She said that on May 2, 2018, she was getting ready to go to the UK after checking her criminal record at the bedside.
When she could not find him, she went to the deceased's house where he was lying on the bed and interrogated him. But the answer given was not satisfactory.
"She had a discussion with him and there was a heated exchange of words, which earned him at go to the kitchen and grab a pan and a knife.
"When she went back to the deceased's grave, she hit him in the head with the frying pan and I said, "Tell me, what makes you think you refuse?"
Otike-Odibi even asked her husband to call his mother and tell him about his behavior before repeatedly beating him to the head with the pan, said the police chief.
She then stabbed him in the abdomen and sat next to him, "watching his intestines go out," he added.
She told him, "If your penis is the one that allows you to feel the feeling of another person, it is best to cut it off." him and hanged a piece of penis in his right hand.
The court heard that Otike-Odibi had sent a courier WhastApp message to a friend saying, "I did something terrible." She sent another to her own mother and said, "Sorry, Mom, we fought."
The police seized a frying pan, a knife, a pen and telephones, as well as the British and Nigerian pbadports of Otike-Odibi, after a search at her home.
His lawyer challenged the admissibility of the statements made to the police. Police said at the time of Sym's death that detectives had found him "with torn belly".
The couple are heard married three years ago after Sym divorced his first wife.
He has a daughter who is currently studying in the UK, the court said. Otike-Odibi denies all the charges against her. Judge Adedayo Akintoye adjourned the trial until 25 February.
