IMANI Africa President Franklin Cudjoe said he saw no need for the Ejura Commission of Inquiry to continue the investigation after the Ashanti regional minister admitted to ordering the army to surrender to Ejura.

Ashanti regional minister Simon Osei-Mensah defended military involvement in tensions in Ejura, which saw soldiers open fire on protesters, killing two and injuring four.

He said his decision to request the military presence was based on information he gathered that the youths planned to burn down the Ejura police station and a house belonging to two suspects arrested in connection with the death of the social activist. , Ibrahim Muhammed.

“So based on this information, I ordered the police and the army to go to the city and maintain public order, and I did so as the president of the Security Council. regional because the law grants me this power, ”Osei-Mensah explained. .

He said his action was also in line with Law 1030 on security and intelligence agencies.

“I have used this strategy the entire time. This is the first time that we have had casualties, and I think we should continue, ”Osei-Mensah said.

Speaking on The big problem, Mr Cudjoe said the reason for the investigation was to investigate what led to the whole incident in Ejura which only escalated after the military dispersed the demonstration ground, so he thinks that it should have ended after the Minister admitted to giving the order.

“I thought the work of the Committee should have been done immediately, Regional Minister Ashanti said he had given command because is not that what we are looking for?” Who gave the order? This is what they are supposed to be watching… The circumstances and the killings in Ejura… And he provided video evidence to show that the police were overwhelmed, and therefore he felt within his right to issue an order. for that to happen.

“Of course, we wondered if he was right to give the order in the first place, so I thought the job was done. If the demonstration field hadn’t been dispersed with live ammunition and some people had not been killed and mutilated, the committee would not sit. Someone gave the order and the person identified himself, so I think the matter ends there, ”he said. he adds.
